Name of qualification: BEC

What does this mean? Business English Certificate

Who is the provider? Cambridge University ESOL

How many levels? 3 levels, Preliminary, Vantage and Higher.

How much does exam cost?  £53  /£77  /£84, depending on level

The exams are designed to test ability in Business language in all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. They are aimed at both pre-experience students who are studying business courses, students planning to start work in a company and business people who want to update and improve their business English and get a certificate.

Level: Elementary – Advanced, depending on exam

Dates: 2 weeks Intensive* or 6 weeks combined General English & exam preparation to be confirmed

 

Name of qualification: TOEIC

What does this mean? Test of English for International Communication

Who is the provider? Chauncey, USA

How many levels? 2 levels, TOEIC Bridge and TOEIC.

How much does exam cost? £55 (display Certificate, £10 extra)

TOEIC is aimed at people seeking employment in a professional company where English is used. It tests Reading and Listening skills. Many major companies insist on their employees gaining a particular score before offering them a job or promotion.

Level: Pre-Intermediate (Bridge) Intermediate (TOEIC)

Dates: 2 weeks, starting the 3rd week of each month

 

Name of qualification: IELTS

What does this mean? International English Language Testing System 

Who is the provider? Cambridge ESOL/British Council and EDS

How many levels? 2 levels, Academic and General Training.

How much does it cost? £90 approx.

The exam tests all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The academic exam is designed for people planning to attend University in an English-speaking country, e.g. UK, USA, Canada and an increasing number of other countries throughout the world. The general training exam is for people wanting to follow a vocational course or planning to work in an English speaking company or a company where English is frequently used in the course of day-to-day business.

Level:  Minimum, good Intermediate

 

Name of qualification: FTBE

What does this mean? Further Certificate in Teaching Business English 

Who is the provider? London Chamber of Commerce/EDI

How many levels? One level.

How much does exam cost? £70

The course and exam are designed primarily for English teachers with little or no experience in Business English and for people with a Business background but with little or no teaching experience. However, it is also popular among teachers already teaching Business English but wanting a paper qualification. A high level of English is required for this course.

Dates: 2 weeks starting: 30.1.06: 3.4.06: 14.8.06: 16.10.06

 

Study & Work

Two-week English Language & Professional Training Course

 

 

OPTION A:  Intensive Two-week English Language & Professional Training Course

(30 hours per week) followed by Work Placement

-          42 hours of General English covering the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing appertaining to tourism and hospitality as a profession.

-      3 hours work on preparation of a professional CV, practicing interview techniques, information on studying and working in the United Kingdom.

-      9 hours of building-up professional vocabulary, trade skills and self-confidence. 

-          6 hours Professional Training Course of UK Basic Health and Safety Requirements.                                                                                       

-           

-          A thirty-question multiple-choice examination concludes this course.

-       For new-EU citizens assistance provided in filling the forms (12 pages) for registration required by the Home Office*.

-       Half-day excursion

·          Registration fee of 50.00 GBP is NOT included in the course fee and is payable direct to UK  Home Office. 

 

 

  OPTION B: Advanced Two-week English Language & Professional Training Course

(1(15 hours per week) followed by Work Placement

-          15 hours of General English covering the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing                                 

-           

-           appertaining to tourism and hospitality as a profession.

 -      3 hours work on preparation of a professional CV, practicing interview techniques, information on studying and working in the United Kingdom.

-      12 hours of building professional vocabulary, trade skills and self-confidence. 

-       For new-EU citizens assistance provided in filling the forms (12 pages) for registration required by the Home Office*.                        

 *   Registration fee of 50.00 GBP is NOT included in course fee and is payable direct to Home Office.
