Summer Vacation Course (LSV)

Holiday course for adults combining English lessons with opportunities for sports, social and tourist activities.

  • Available mid-June to end of August
  • Entry possible every week
  • 20 lessons (15 hours) per week
  • 4 evening activities per week
  • Free weekly excursions, destinations include Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton, Canterbury and Bath
  • Duration 2 to 10 weeks
  • Minimum age 16
  • Maximum class size 14
  • Elementary to advanced levels

Summer Intensive Course (LGI(S))

A general English course with lessons daily, Monday to Friday, either in the mornings or afternoons.

  • Available mid-June to end of August
  • Entry possible every 2 weeks
  • 28 lessons (21 hours) per week
  • 4 evening activities per week
  • Duration 2 to 10 weeks
  • Minimum age 16
  • Maximum class size 14
  • Elementary to advanced levels
  • Optional programme of excursions, sports and social activities

Compact Course (LCC)

This course is designed for those who need general English for non-specific purposes.

  • 20 lessons (15 hours) per week from January to June and September to December.
  • Duration 2 to 50 weeks
  • Entry possible every week
  • Minimum age 16
  • Maximum class size 14
  • Beginner to advanced levels
  • Intensive Course includes 'special interest' modules in the afternoons, such as exam preparation, Business English, Grammar Workshop and Media Studies (available for intermediate to advanced students)
  • All course materials included
  • Use of video, language laboratory and computers
  • Public Examinations include Cambridge, TOEFL & IELTS
  • Transfer to exam preparation classes possible for suitable candidates
  • Optional weekly programme of visits, excursions and film shows
  • All students are tested on entry, have regular homework and take periodic tests
  • Attendance certificates are issued to those students attending more than 90% of the course: academic reports can be prepared on request

General Intensive Course (LGI)

Cambridge Examination Course (LFC)

A special course preparing students for the Cambridge First Certificate in English.

The Cambridge First Certificate is the most widely taken of all the Cambridge EFL examinations and is recognised in commerce, industry and educational institutions, in Britain and overseas, as proof of language ability in reading, writing, listening and speaking at the Upper Intermediate level.

  • 20 lessons per week
  • Start dates in March, April, September and October (subject to availability)
  • Examinations held in March, June and December
  • Duration 12 or 15 weeks
  • Minimum age 16
  • Maximum class size 14
  • All course materials included
  • Use of video, language laboratory and computers

Cambridge Certificate candidates are tested for suitability on enrolment, have regular homework, take periodic tests and have two comprehensive mock examinations during the course.

The language and academic skills acquired throughout the course are directly transferable to the TOEFL and IELTS examinations. Additional guidance and practice is provided for students who actually enrol for either of these examinations.

Teacher-supervised self-access facilities (video, computers, language laboratory, library) are available to students at lunchtime and after lessons.

The dates for the FCE exam in 2005, are as follows:
